Trade talks with China, Trump says everything is going “very well”

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that trade talks with China were going “very well”, appearing more positive than Tuesday when he said a trade deal may have to wait until after the US presidential election in 2020 .

“The discussions are going very well and we will see what happens,” Trump told reporters at a meeting of NATO leaders near London.

His comments on Tuesday, which raised the possibility of a prolonged prolongation of trade tensions between the world’s largest economies and the second-largest, raised sharp stock prices around the world.

Shares were pushed back Wednesday when Bloomberg reported that the two sides were closer to agreeing how much tariffs would be withdrawn again in a “phase one” trade deal.

Investors fear the U.S.China stalemate, which has marked Trump’s presidency since it began in 2017, will add to the slowdown in the global economy./Investing.com
