Toyota, BYD of China to jointly develop battery EVs

On Friday Toyota Motor Corp said it would jointly develop battery electric vehicles (EVs) and batteries with BYD Co Ltd of China, expanding its Chinese partnerships to build affordable EV for the world’s largest car market.

In a statement, Toyota and the Chinese electric car manufacturer said they would develop sedans and sports utility vehicles, which will be sold under the Toyota brand in China before 2025.

Earlier this week, Toyota announced that it was co-operating with Contemporary China Amerex Technology Co Ltd for the supply and development of batteries for lower emission vehicles./
